Hey! So first off I’m Cody. I went to Zeeland West High School where I cultivated my love for running and exercising (shoutout to Coach Hoover and Mr. Shilito for always encouraging me to push myself). I then went to Grand Valley State University where I decided to major in Exercise Science with a health fitness-instructor emphasis. While at Grand Valley I tried out for the track team and fell short of the marks by a large margin (1:29 600m vs their mark of 1:22 600m). I was heart broken… for a day. I decided I need to join the running club there and work on my fitness. The sad part was that I was the only sprinter there. Everyone else ran the 5k or more and wanted to run for fun. Well… long story short the running club is now 20+ sprinter/hurdlers strong. I didn’t get to run on the varsity team but I learned so much through my roommate Andrew Borja. I got to further my education at Endurance Rehabilitation and Athletics, a physical therapy clinic, that specialized in helping runners. I also got to work at East Grand Rapids HS with Marcus Kinney of Barwis Methods and the Grand Rapids Griffin S&C Coach. I learned a lot about preventing and strengthening for runners, and even more about general strength and conditioning for athletes. I also want to give a shoutout to Justin and faculty at GVSU for everything they’ve done. I graduated from GVSU in 2019 with a 3.50 GPA and now I don’t really know what to do.
So with my struggles and newfound evolving knowledge, I wanted to write them here. I want to write about some parts of my life while trying to incorporate some fitness into the stories (no guarantees). As an ACSM Personal Trainer at Crunch Fitness, I also want to talk about my experiences (with the clients permission) so anyone out there can learn from actions and thoughts. Thanks for reading and I hope you can learn something from my blog post!
