You just moved away from your parents. Or maybe this is your last semester in school and you have to give it your all. Whatever the case is, if being healthy and fit is important to you then you shouldn’t stop exercising.
Whenever someone asks me “how long have you been working out” I reply with “for awhile.” The truth is I’ve been lifting on and off since middle school circa 2011. I started my swole journey because of football. Every football player has to be able to adapt in the weight room or else they’ll never be the best players they can be. This is a fact for most sports but more importantly and socially acceptable for football players. So now it’s 2019 and I look like a person who just started working out. There’s a reason why I look the way I am. For one, I took up distance running for 3 years so exercising for vanity was not my goal. The real reason why I wasn’t ripped and shredded like anyone else with my experience though was because of my lack of consistency. I didn’t lift weights in the summer. My excuse was that I didn’t have access to one and I couldn’t afford one. I had a lot of excuses. But I have always known that being consistent with a exercise program is very important.
Being consistent in the weight room allows your body to stay adapting to the stress it receives. Since I took the summer months off from weight lifting I was always taking two steps forward and one step back. After a couple years I have come to realize that my current fitness would be completely different if I kept exercising consistently. Everyone has experienced this. You get really good at your first job, but then the weekend rolls around. You forget how to work the cashier or forget where the box goes. The same applies to exercising. Your body forgets the fitness. More accurately your body adapts to what it’s doing which in this case would be anything but exercising. Exercising isn’t just something you’re gonna do for a couple months. It’s something you should do for as long as you can. Once you reach one goal, make another. Fitness is forever.
